The manuscript collection includes correspondence, employment records, and reports from Major Edmond Mallet’s time as Indian Agent and Indian Inspector of Indian Agencies and Reservations. The correspondence is between Major Mallet and the following: Office of Indian Affairs, American Indian children, and businesses supplying goods to the agencies. Major Mallet was Indian Agent at the Tulalip Agency and Tulalip Indian School in Washington Territory from 1878-1879. Correspondence regarding his work as Indian Agent extends into 1880. Major Mallet was Indian Inspector in 1889-1890. The reports and correspondence are the drafts he sent to the Office of Indian Affairs for his inspection while he was Indian Inspector of the following agencies: Cheyenne & Arapahoe Agency at Darlington; Kiowa, Comanche, and Wichita Agency at Anadarko, Oklahoma Territory; Cheyenne River Agency at Fort Bennett, Dakota Territory; Rosebud Agency at Rosebud, Dakota Territory; Sac and Fox Agency, Iowa; Standing Rock Agency at Fort Yates, Dakota Territory; Yankton Sioux Agency and examination of the school at the reservation, Dakota Territory; and Genoa Indian Training School, Genoa, Nebraska. There is also correspondence and reports regarding the case of the death of a horse belonging to the Ponca, Pawnee, Otoe, and Oakland Agency, Oklahoma Territory.
